Quick Notes for the Week of Jan. 27
ALERT From District ETS: Fake Instructor Emails
Protect Your Personal Information
The college and district Educational Technology Services (ETS) have received reports of scam emails impersonating De Anza or Foothill College instructors and offering fake paid research or job opportunities. These messages may ask for personal details such as your phone number, non-district email address or financial information.
Tips to protect yourself:
- Always check the sender’s address. Scammers often use look-alike emails. For example, “doejohn.fhda.edu@gmail.com" is a fake lookalike address. All district and college emails end only with @fhda.edu, @foothill.edu or @deanza.edu.
- College faculty and staff will never ask for personal information, like phone numbers or alternate emails, through unsolicited messages.
- Avoid clicking suspicious links. Do not open links or attachments from unknown senders.
- Do not respond to offers of paid “research” or “jobs.” If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
- Always respond to your professor using a known email address or communicate via Canvas. This is always provided to you in the course syllabus.
- If you receive a suspicious email, do not reply. Delete it or report it as spam to your email provider.
