Cal-GETC

Cal-GETC, also known as the California General Education Transfer Curriculum, is the single transferable general education pathway that is acceptable at both UCs and CSUs, in addition to selecting independent colleges and universities. Courses considered for Cal-GETC must be UC transferable. Courses intending to earn Cal-GETC status in one of the six GE areas a are submitted mid-December for review (courses are reviewed for UC-transferability in September, and only courses approved for UC-transferability are allowed to submit for Cal-GETC). If approved, the effective date that the course will have transfer status is the following academic year.

More information on Cal-GETC eligibility and course requirements can be found at the following link: https://icas-ca.org/cal-getc-standards/

Q. What happens if a course idenied Cal-GETC status?

A. For any courses that are denied Cal-GETC status, the Articulation Officer suggests the curriculum initiator first review the criteria for transfer General Education.  If the course seems appropriate for GE, the initiator should make an appointment to meet with the Articulation Officer to discuss possible ways to adjust the course and the outline to meet the criteria.  Initiators, departments, and divisions should also look at the big picture and consider if the course is being used for a certificate/degree or towards transferable major preparation, and not focus on just the GE aspect of the course.  The course might be narrow in focus because it was meant to be part of a major.  The Articulation Officer is available by appointment, either in-person or on Zoom.
