Early Planning Stages
2019: Closing the Flint Center
After examining numerous options for addressing structural, safety, accessibility and usage issues in the 50-year-old Flint Center building on De Anza's campus – at an estimated cost of $50 million or more – the Foothill-De Anza Board of Trustees voted on June 10, 2019, to permanently close the Flint Center.
Since then, the college and district have engaged in further discussions about the best uses for the Flint Center site and for construction funding available through measure G.
2020-2022: Initial Proposals
Initial planning discussions focused on the idea of building a "Megaproject" that would include a new Services for Students Building and a new Event Center on the north side of campus, and the temporary relocation of instructional and studio space for the Creative Arts Division..
- The Services for Students building would help consolidate and centralize important services and programs.
- The Event Center would directly serve instructional and student service needs, as approved by the district Board of Trustees, and, to the extent possible, help meet community needs for a cultural venue and civic meeting space.

February 2023: Draft Options
President Lloyd A. Holmes gave presentations in February 2023 to College Council, the Academic Senate, the Measure G Student Forum hosted by De Anza Student Government (DASG), and to Creative Arts faculty members and classified professionals.
May 2023: Board Study Session
The Foothill-De Anza Board of Trustees heard presentations and discussion about Measure G during a study session on Monday, May 8, 2023. Presentations included
- Measure G Update Part 1 – including a program overview and various projects
- Measure G Update Part 2: Event Center and Services for Students Building – including results from a feasibility study (market analysis) for the Event Center project
Spring-Fall 2023: Measure G Task Force
After President Holmes called for a "reset" of discussions around the Measure G Megaproject, the Measure G Task Force was established by College Council to develop a process and recommendations for moving forward and how to spend funds available to De Anza. The task force includes members representing students, classified professionals, faculty and administrators from relevant areas. The task force met through the summer of 2023 and made recommendations that fall.
Spring-Summer 2024: Creative Arts and Student Services
The Foothill-De Anza district Board of Trustees' voted on May 6, 2024 to re-allocate Measure G funds that had been earmarked for construction of a new Event Center on the Flint Center site. The board decision provided $55 million to De Anza for use as prioritized by the college, in addition to earlier allocations for a Services for Students Building and other projects.
The board's action came on a motion by Trustee Peter Landsberger, who added the caveat that the board reserves discretion to reallocate other Measure G funds that were designated for housing, if essential infrastructure needs arise.
Following the board's decision, Interim President Christina G. Espinosa-Pieb reconvened De Anza's Measure G Task Force and, with the task force's unanimous support in July 2024, the college began moving forward with planning for two new buildings to be constructed with bond funds, in a phased approach:
- In the first phase, the college will develop plans for a new Creative Arts facility on the site of the outdated Flint Center, which is being demolished this summer.
- In a second phase, the college will finalize earlier planning for a new Services for Students Building on the site of the A Quad, where the Creative Arts Division has been housed.
The approach draws on the task force's 2023 recommendations. While the college will begin work on developing plans and budgets, Espinosa-Pieb emphasized that the process will include input from the Creative Arts Division.
